Module 2
Creating a Stand-out Resume
The most selective stage of the FP&A recruiting process is the resume selection phase. At this point, the vast majority of applicants get eliminated.
To make it to the interview stage, you need to create a stand-out resume that concisely and clearly communicates that you have the experience and skills hiring managers are looking for.
In this module, you’ll learn what differentiates a mediocre from a stand-out resume. Instead of theoretical discussions, we use a real example to illustrate best practices and help you take your resume to the next level.
We cover:
How HR, Recruiters, and Hiring Managers select a resume
Review of a best practice resume (template included)
FP&A Competency Assessment
Module 3
Mastering FP&A Case Studies
Case studies are a way to test how applicants perform when given a task similar to what they are expected to do on the job.
Typically, that involves a combination of Excel, analysis, and presentation tasks. This module gives you an opportunity to practice with a real FP&A case study.
After you have done the case study, you can review how a job candidate who got hired answered the case study and watch a detailed solution walk-through.
We cover:
Case Study Exercise
Exercise Solution Walkthrough
Module 4
Navigating FP&A Job Interviews
Once you have passed the resume selection and case study phases, it’s time for the interview stage.
Most companies conduct a screening interview, where you discuss your resume with a recruiter or HR manager, peer interviews, where you talk to your potential finance colleagues or cross-functional business partner, and lastly, hiring manager interviews with your prospective managers.
Each interview type requires a different preparation.
You’ll learn what the 18 most commonly asked interview questions are, why hiring managers ask them, and how to approach each of them in detail.
We cover:
The Screening Interview
The Peer Interview

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I apply for an FP&A role?
A career in FP&A is attractive because it offers a unique combination of puzzle-solving and psychology that many find rewarding. Analysis, forecasting, planning, modeling, month-end close, process optimization—that’s all about solving puzzles.
Then there is business partnering, financial storytelling, and advocating for sustainable growth and profitability—all of which involve knowing people and psychology.
While more and more people enter FP&A careers, the supply of FP&A roles is continually increasing as well. There are two reasons why companies increase the rate at which they hire for FP&A roles.
One, leaders increasingly see the value of FP&A as a strategic partner that helps them make better decisions through in-depth analysis and connecting operational metrics with financials.
And two, accounting roles and other finance fields with repetitive tasks increasingly get automated, which opens up the capacity to hire FP&A professionals. |
